Clarification on RFID Tags

Dear Residents,

Thank you to all who waited in line to pick up your Gate Entry Packets in person. We appreciate everyone's participation and patience.

If you pre-registered for your tags but were unable to pickup your packet in person, you will receive it in the mail in the next few days unless you have made arrangements to have it held at Management & Associates. Anyone who has failed to request tags for their vehicles will not be able to use the entry gate starting on Monday 6/13. Please order your tag(s) now by clicking here.

RFID Tag Questions

A few of you have already reached out to Management & Associates asking specific questions about the RFID Tags. We thought it would be good to share these questions and our responses with the rest of the community.

Do I mount my RFID tag inside or outside of the vehicle?

Windshield Tags are mounted on the inside of the windshield. Headlight Tags (which are coated with a UV protectant) are mounted on the outside of the headlight. The illustrations in the Installation Guidelines depict this.

I ordered a Windshield Tag, but it doesn't look exactly like the image in the Windshield Tag Installation Guideline. It looks more like the Headlight Tag. Did I get the right tag?Should I install my tag on the headlight instead?

There are many types of RFID Tags and they don't all look alike. While the image shown in the Installation Guideline does not resemble our Windshield tags, we assure you that you received the correct tags. The process for installing them is the same as that which is outlined in the Installation Guideline.

You can easily tell which type of tag you have by the following table:

Windshield Tag

  • Tag ID starts with 25___

  • Does not have a vertical black stripe down the center of the tag

Headlight Tag

  • Tag ID starts with 09___

  • Has a vertical black strip down the center of the tag

The tags are quite thin. What if I rip one?

Please be very careful when installing your tag, as the Association is not responsible for damaged tags.

Identify the area where you plan to install your tag ensuring proper distances from the edges of the windshield or headlight and clean the area as recommended in the Installation Guide.

Take extra care when separating the tag from the adhesive backing. We've found the following method to work well: Start by peeling away a small amount of the tag from the backing at one of the ends. Just enough to grab with the tips of your fingers. Then slowly peel the backing away from the RFID tag (rather than the tag away from the backing). This will help keep the tag flat as you separate the backing from it. If you pull the tag from the backing, you'll bend the tag. This is not desirable or recommended.

Once you remove the tag from the backing, handle it by the edges to avoid touching the adhesive.

Affix the tag in the location you've selected. NOTE: If you're in doubt, you could scotch tape your tag to your windshield or headlight BEFORE permanently adhering it to ensure proper placement. Only scotch tape the very ends of of the tag where the backing exists. Again, be careful taping and removing the tag and ensure you don't bend it or accidently separate it from the backing in the process.

REMINDER: Our RFID reader is on the right side of the entry driveway, so your tags should be mounted on the right side of the vehicle.

Other Questions

I was unable to bring a check and pay in person. How will I be charged?

The amount due for your tag(s) will be charged directly to your Management & Associates (Caliber) account. This is the same account that your HOA dues are associated with.

If you are setup for auto payment of your HOA dues either through your bank or through Management & Associates, it is your responsibility to ensure your account is brought current before the due date in order to avoid late fees.

You can login to check your account balance in Caliber by clicking here.

I'm a tenant and I was unable to pay in person. How will I be charged?

Your homeowner's account will be charged. You will need to make arrangements to pay the homeowner (landlord). The homeowner will pay the Association.

Checks are a pain. Why don't you accept credit cards?

We received a bit of feedback about the checks. We understand that checks have become a virtually obsolete form of payment and we're reviewing our options to implement online credit card payment (for these types of accessories) through the villasofcarillon.com website to help make the process for our residents more efficient. Stay tuned.

Sincerely,

Villas of Carillon Board of Directors
